Please Note: The truck have started to move! Oh, sorry, wrong game! Anyway, this is another case of terrible localization! On this stage, the names of the cities are all screwed up; big time! There are almost no similarities between the SNES version and PSX; even the SNES instruction book has the names mixed around in its mini-walkthrough area!! And for this stage, being able to tell which city is which is very important, because there’s two special characters in it for you if you do this stage right! From this point on, I will refer to the SNES version of the cities, seeing as more people are playing that version, thanks in part to emulation. Not that there’s anything wrong with that...

This is the first appearance of the “JOKER” (Joker Tarot) item in a shop. Using one of these will give you a random Tarot Card, and add it to your deck. Eventually, you should get at least 20 of these for the early goings, so that you don’t ever have to worry about running out or Tarot Cards. At this time, however, you probably don’t have enough Goth to buy this many, so only get a few of them for now. You can get more later, and on other stages. The “SUMMONS” (Mass Summons) item is an interesting one, as it transports every unit that you have deployed to the location of the Opinion Leader. It is a situational item, and not really too important for now.

Not quite as good pickings as last stage, but the Gryphons that may pile up in your reserves can be useful if you are short on High Sky units. The other two classes may not be as useful, seeing as you can get Giants from Wizards by recruitment, and Water terrain units are not really that great.

There are a few more total units deployed than last stage, but they still
are not maxed out to 5 total characters per unit like all of your should be. So, these fights should be fairly easy once again. Also, because your next stage is the Pogrom Forest, you will want to try and get as many Amazon promoted to Clerics as possible. There are Undead lurking in the Pogrom Forest! Just an added twist to think about while fighting on this stage... Unit# 3-4, Unit# 3-5, & Unit# 3-7 are the ones to watch for on this stage.

Prologue: A previously autonomous territory, Sharom had good relations with the Zenobian Royal Family, but is now ruled by the governor named Gilbert. As the Empire turned sour,
he became trapped in his role. Unlike Usar, this guy is not evil to the core, so under the right circumstances, he could become a great ally...
This stage is your first real test. In fact, this stage is one of the hardest in the whole game! That is only because there are two, that's right, two special characters that you can get from this stage
to join your rebellion. They are Canopus the Wind Rider, and the boss of the stage, Gilbert. However, the hoops you must jump
through in order to get them is not easy. Well, difficult to get Canopus. Gilbert usually just falls into place once you get Canopus. This is one of the most difficult things in the game to do sometimes, and easily the most involved thing that you will ever have to do while on a stage.
And, top make it even more complicated for you, the city names are screwed up between versions! Ahhh!! All said, I’ll lay it out for you, and make it nice and simple like.
Deployment Time! The main force of enemy units are gonna be coming from the road along Latingurue & Vannu, so deploy most of your units down through here.
Send one unit down along the right side of the fork in the road in front of your base, so that it can liberate Sagebard. Send a flying unit or two over
towards the Roshian Temple to the west. As for a potential Water unit, the absolute best place for it is right offshore near the town of Latingurue; right near the bridge.
This is because when you win a battle anywhere near this town, the enemy unit will get pushed back near your unit in the water, and a battle will start instantly on your turf! Lots of fun... As usual, your Opinion Leader should just stay around your main base.
Step 1: Time to start liberating towns. Do not, I repeat, do NOT liberate the town of Bah’ Wahl yet!! You can have your flying city liberating unit wait right nearby after you have liberated R.T. #2 and gotten the buried treasure along the top of the map. As for most of the other towns, it is rather simple. Liberate everything except for the hidden R.T. #3, which is west of Parcival, the boss's castle. As an added bonus, when you liberate the hidden town of Lenikan, you will be given the “MOONROSE” (Moon Rose), which can be sold later at various stages in the game for quite a bit of Goth. More on that later. After you liberated Latingurue, they told you about the "Wind Rider" that lives in this area. A clue perhaps? Of course, don't liberate Parcival yet either!
Step 2: You might almost want to wait until you've killed off all of the enemy units before going on with
the steps necessary to get Canopus. It will be very annoying to have to worry about things like defending towns and keeping an eye on enemy units.
It shouldn’t take you that long really. Once there are no more enemies, go to the Bah’ Wahl. Here, you will find the Wind Rider Canopus, the man himself. He will ask you “questions three” about what you are fighting for. (What is your quest?... Just kidding!) Now, I think that you may lose some Reputation here if you say “No” to all three of his questions, but I’m not sure. Just pick one, or choose to say “No” to all three. At any rate, he will rebuff you, and complain about how you don’t know what you want. But does anybody ever really know they want?
Ally?
Step 3: This is the part that many people forget to do in this wild and crazy list of steps.
You must go back and visit the town of Latingurue after you have visited Canopus at Bah’ Wahl. The town of Latingurue will provide the necessary back story. They also mention that Canopus had a sister named Yulia. They also bring up the fact that Gilbert, the boss of this stage, wants to lose, and can't forgive himself for working with the Empire. Curiouser & curiouser...
Step 4: So, now that you know Yulia
even exists, go and visit her at the hidden Roshian Temple, which is west of Parcival. With no more enemy
units around, this should be pretty easy to do. However, make sure that you avoid moving too close to the boss castle, or you might accidentally initiate the final confrontation too soon! According to
her, it turns out that Gilbert and Canopus
were best buddies at one time, but since the Empire took over, the two friends disagreed about how to deal with them, and stopped talking to each other. She will then give you the “WING” (Wing of Victory),
which will get Canopus out of the funk he’s in.
Step 5: Now, it's just a matter of simply returning to Bah’ Wahl, and show him the “WING” (Wing of Victory). He will repent his reclusiveness, and ask to join your army! Tah
dah! It’s done! Now, to get Gilbert to join your army as well, all you have to do is make sure that a unit led by Canopus fights and defeats Gilbert. I suggest keeping the same characters in the unit Canopus starts out in, but switch it up so that the two
Hawk Men are in the Front Row, and the Gryphon is in the Back Row with Canopus. This will give
you many more attacks, not to mention a Hit-All. You may not need to change this unit’s makeup for the rest of the game; unless you are a real pro or like to experiment... The other thing that you can do to help out this unit is to equip the Hawk Men with some weapons that you’ve found as buried treasures up till now. They will surely help! Once you’re all set, it’s time to...

M.O.B.Q. Tip!
Heh, had you going there, didn’t I?! Before you take on the boss, here is a quick step by step list on how to get Canopus.
1: First off, you must do all of this before you have even beaten the stage. If you accidentally beat it,
you’re SOL! You would also lose the chance to recruit Gilbert if you miss Canopus.
2: Liberate the town Latingurue, which should be the shop town. You will be told about Canopus.
3: Go & liberate the town of Bah’ Wahl. Meet Canopus, and pick any answer for his “questions three.”
4: Revisit Latingurue. The townsfolk will now tell you about Yulia, the sister of Canopus.
5: Find & liberate the hidden Roshian Temple west of the boss castle of Parcival. There, you will meet Yulia, and if you've followed the directions in order, she'll give you the “WING” (Wing of Victory).
6: Return to Bah’ Wahl, and Canopus should see the “WING” (Wing of Victory), and ask to join your army, and get ready to have him square off against Gilbert.
See? No problem!
Fight It Out!! |
Once again, the boss is a dumb-ass and has allowed himself access to your entire Front Row. However, the support characters are
much much stronger than the ones that Usar had last stage. All you have to do is beat him, not the Wyrms, so set your tactic to Leader immediately. Since Beast Men are severely weak against Fire based attacks, a ”Magician” Tarot Card will butcher Gilbert.
Not too tough a fight overall after using one of those. Any damage card will work fine, though.
If you "play your cards right," hah, I'm funny! after the battle is won, Gilbert will admit that the reason he was going along with the Empire was to protect his people. He felt that if he were the ruler watching over them, things couldn’t be so bad for them, even if he was being told what to do. But now he knows that is not the way to deal with them, and your Opinion Leader and Canopus will coax him into joining your rebellion! Another special character to add to your collection; complete with two very useful Wyrms!
Ally!
M.O.B.Q. Tip!
Thanks to Canopus, you now have the ability to recruit as many Hawk Men as you want. The reason why you should care is because simply having one in a unit that doesn’t have any large monster classes in it will give the unit a Low Sky terrain type. This will make traveling across many different terrains much easier for your city liberation units. So, before you begin the next stage, empty out the unit that Canopus comes with, and separate out the Hawk Men that he comes with, and stick them into your other units. If you still need more, revisit a stage, deploy Canopus in a unit all by himself, and recruit more at the nearest town.
Excluding the shop, here are the other items that you can find on this stage. One of them is a necessary piece to the Canopus puzzle. Don’t forget to find it while you are on the stage!

There is only one thing to do here, and it’s a minor thing. Only come back if you
missed buried treasures, or like to hear about background story of the game.
1) Visit the town of Lenikan. You will encounter a witch named Babaloa. She will tell you all about five heroes who united the kingdom 80 years ago. They were, in no particular order... Roshian (the Prince of Sharom), Gran (the Prince's aide), beast-master Dalkas, Lavian (monk of Avalon), and Rashidi, the greatest wizard on the continent... She also tells you about King Gran's two sons, Jan and Tristran, both of which were killed in the
war 25 years ago. Or did they? You'll also get the scoop on Endora's main forces, which consist of her son, Gares, 4 Devas and a powerful Overlord. Finally, if you're feelin' lucky, you can ask
her about a date! Seriously!! Sadly, she declines... Which could be a good or bad thing, depending on your own personal tastes in women...
